XCAN Day 16 Fernie to Bellevue

Distance:             84.2
Time:                  3:58
Elevation gain:   613
Weather:            Windy, Wet, DIRTY
Flats:                 0  (Total 2 to date)

It was decided last night that we would get up and leave the campsite early and head for breakfast in
Fernie.  It is a nice little town and an we went to Big Bang Bagel where Nancy and Dave's friend Debbie met us.  Had a good fresh bagel breakfast sandwich and then said goodby to Debbie and headed out on the road.  We did hint to her that if she wanted to meet us down the road with some premade dinners, we surely wouldn't object. :)

Strong headwind as we left Fernie and then the rain started.  Wasn't that heavy of rain but enough to get your legs wet.  Heidi called and asked Greg to stop just past Sparwood, to ensure we were all doing well.  Nancy had been drafting off of Dave during the morning who didn't have fenders on, so needless to say she was covered in dirt.

Just after we left Greg...the rain picked up and the sides of the road we all were covered in a fine wet black dirt.  We think it was a coal dust...and it was ugly.  Some staining to our kits and jackets, which didn't come out even with tons of scrubbing and cleaner.
Onward to the Crowsnest Pass and down the other side to the Alberta Border where Greg was waiting for us.  We got warm and did a change of pants and then pictures at the border.  Then a 28 km ride to Frank and Bellevue for the night.

Alberta

The upper plateau is beautiful and wished it was a little better weather to see it all.

The Frank Slide site is even more massive when you ride through it on a bike than in a car.  The slide happened 115 years ago and still just rock!

A few more kilometres and we arrived at the Crowsnest Pass Campsite.

We hosed off the bikes and most everything else...and headed for the showers. Nancy shower scale is a 9!   Tried to wash our kits and jackets as stated above...but it may take something much stronger to clean it.

Leftover Lasagna, (again...thank you Cathy) and then final preps for tomorrow.

We are hoping that better weather will start soon!  Now that we have made it to Alberta...maybe???

We had someone ask on our site about a day in the life of Greg.  This was not a typical day...so he says he will do it tomorrow.

Still Smiling    Heidi
