Today we left Terrebonne just outside Montreal to ride to Marina The Eagles Nest. This is a new campground; they are still building the washrooms and the laundry is not yet established, hence the lower rating. What they have finished is very nice. Anyway on to the ride:
Started this morning in the sun although they were calling for potential thunder storms. The first 10km of the ride was through the village of Terrebonne on mostly bike paths. Terrebonne is a really cute little town with a French feeling. Today it was Saturday so there was a small market just setting up and Dave and I stopped to buy some fresh garlic. The woman told us if we didn't cut the stalks it would keep longer so we stuffed the whole bunch in Dave's bag with the dry stalks sticking out the end. And what they say about garlic really works because we weren't bothered by vampires all day!
The first 70kms of the ride were really beautiful along the St. Lawrence river, mostly on fairly quiet roads. Lots of bikers out today riding the same route as us - in both directions. Dave and I stopped after about 1.5 hours for a coffee and fruit crepe at a restaurant. Both were good but not nearly as good as the coffee boutique we stopped at yesterday where we talked to Kathy and Louis-Robert for about an hour. What a great time - but I digress! The crepe today was great. We then continued on to Berthierville for lunch which was an overpriced marina restaurant with a great location as their only asset. Again, I could compare it to the absolutely fantastic boulangerie we stopped at yesterday for lunch in Oka, but I won't.
The next 17 km took us to the campground through a farmers field. We kept wondering when it was going to end as the "road" was terrible. Heidi noticed the trail and took a different route on the road so her ride was about 5 km shorter and much nicer I expect.
Heidi and Greg are on dinner duty tonight so we are enjoying a beer on the breezy terrace listening to music and writing this blog.
And we avoided thunderstorms today!
Cheers,
Nancy and Dave
