XCan Day 42 - Marathon to White River

Distance: 60.9 km
Time: 2:28
Speed: 24.65k/hr
Ascent: 442m
Weather: overcast all day, some sprinkles toward the end
Flats: 0
Bathroom Rating: 9, laundry facilities were a 10

Short ride today as we are constrained by campgrounds again.  It rained all night and was raining and extremely windy when we woke this morning.  No one was really feeling like riding but by the time we were ready to start the rain had stopped.  Greg drove us up to the highway (as EFI does not mean you have to retrace your steps!). The wind was howling at the beginning and we didn't think about a picture - just getting it done!  The winds were supposed to be blowing from the south which would have been a huge cross-wind.  I must admit my first couple hundred meters I was thinking was a stupid thing this ride was, how dangerous it was, how I should bail!  But once we were surrounded by trees in the left and right, the wind wasn't so bad and we were able to relax and make pretty good time.  Still gusty but the direction seemed to be mostly at our backs for the duration.
It remained overcast and threatening for the ride and did start to rain when Dave and I came across a cafe.  What a bonus for Dave, they had fresh-cut fries 🍟!  After a short stop we hit the road (dry now) and reached the entrance to the campground about 4km from the cafe.  We are staying at White River provincial park which, although getting into the site was a tight fit for Greg, the showers and laundry facilities are top-rate!

Mike is doing well and is hoping to be discharged tomorrow, hoping to fly home from Thunder Bay.
Cheers,
Nancy and Dave
